PALO ALTO, California – Joe Highsmith fired a 3-under 67 to put him into a tie for fifth place, helping the Pepperdine men's golf team get started at Thursday's first round at The Goodwin.

The Waves are in seventh place after a first-round 282 at the par-70 Stanford Golf Course. They're seven shots back of the host Cardinal.

PLAYER SCORES

Junior Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) posted five birdies in his 3-under 67. He was flawless over the final 12 holes and had three birdies on the back nine. He's four shots behind the leader.
Senior Joey Vrzich (El Cajon, Calif./Christian HS/Nevada) is tied for 20th after an even-par 70. He birdied 1 and 18.
Senior Clay Feagler (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) is tied for 50th after a 72. He had two birdies on the day.
Sophomore William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) is tied for 63rd after a 73. He recorded three birdies on Thursday.
Sophomore Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) is tied for 100th after a 76. He had three birdies in the first round.

UP NEXT

The Waves will be paired with Stanford, Arizona State and SMU again on Tuesday for the second round. They'll start on the 10th tee at 8:10 a.m.
