Men's Golf Falls One Shot Short at The Prestige

LA QUINTA, California – The Pepperdine men's golf team fell a stroke short of its first-ever win at The Prestige on Wednesday, coming in third place, just a shot behind Arizona and North Carolina.

Pepperdine had a three-day total of a 3-under 849 (281-279-289) at the par-71 Greg Norman Course at PGA West. The Waves began the day with a three-shot lead and it was close throughout the final round.

The Waves have now either finished second or third at The Prestige for five consecutive years.

Forty-four additional golfers were taking part at The Prestige Individual Invitational, held at the nearby par-72 Coral Mountain Golf Club. Four Waves were in the field.Â

Pepperdine's next event is the Valspar Collegiate in Palm City, Florida, from March 15-16.

- Sophomore Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) tied for fourth place with a 3-under 210 (71-71-68), also just one shot behind the winners. His 3-under today featured three birdies and 15 pars. Menante had 45 pars for the tournament, more than any other player.
- Senior Joey Vrzich (El Cajon, Calif./Christian HS/Nevada) tied for seventh with a 1-under 212 (67-73-72). He had two birdies today. He had a team-high 11 birdies for the tournament.
- Senior RJ Manke (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) tied for 21st at 216 (76-67-73). He had one birdie on Wednesday.
- Sophomore William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) tied for 29th at 217 (73-68-76). He had two birdies in the final round.
- Senior Joshua McCarthy (Danville, Calif./De La Salle HS) tied for 44th at 219 (70-73-76). He had two birdies today.

- Junior Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) finished tied atop the leaderboard with Colorado State's A.J. Ott with a 12-under 204 (65-69-70). Ott prevailed in a playoff, however. Hitchner had six birdies in his 2-under final round.
- Senior Austin Murphy (Morgan Hill, Calif./Bellarmine College Preparatory) tied for third place with a 9-under 207 (70-65-72). He had four more birdies in an even-par third round.
- Senior Clay Feagler (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) took fifth place with an 8-under 208 (71-70-67). His 5-under today featured six birdies, including each of his final three holes.
- Junior Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) tied for seventh place with a 6-under 210 (71-68-71). His 1-under round had five birdies.
