Vrzich Gets Waves Off to Good Start at Prestige

LA QUINTA, California – Joey Vrzich shot a 4-under 67 to help the Pepperdine men's golf team to a good start at The Prestige on Monday, as the Waves stand in second place after the first round.

Pepperdine shot a 3-under 281 at the par-71 Greg Norman Course at PGA West. The Waves are five shots back of Arizona State. A total of 24 schools are competing at the event.

Forty-four additional golfers are taking part at The Prestige Individual Invitational, held at the nearby par-72 Coral Mountain Golf Club. Four Waves are in the field.Â

The second round at the team event begins at 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday for the Waves, who will again be paired with Stanford and SMU.

- Senior Joey Vrzich (El Cajon, Calif./Christian HS/Nevada) is in second place, three shots back of ASU's David Puig and tied with two others. Vrzich had a total of five birdies, including three on the back nine.
- Senior Joshua McCarthy (Danville, Calif./De La Salle HS) is tied for 16th place after a 1-under 70. He birdied two of his first four holes and had a total of three.
- Sophomore Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) is tied for 25th after an even-par 71. His round included two birdies.
- Sophomore William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) is tied for 52nd after a 73. He had an eagle on the par-4 ninth hole and one birdie.
- Senior RJ Manke (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) is tied for 94th after a 76. He had two birdies.

- Senior Austin Murphy (Morgan Hill, Calif./Bellarmine College Preparatory) is tied for eighth place with a 2-under 70. He had two birdies and 16 pars.
- Senior Clay Feagler (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) and junior Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) are both tied for 10th place after 1-under 71s. Highsmith had a total of seven birdies, including three in his final four holes. Feagler had four birdies, including three straight on holes 3-5.
