Pepperdine got the lead back from back-to-back three-pointers by Bambrick, 31-29. The Waves and Bruins went into the half tied 42-42.

After the half, the Bruins went right back at the Waves with a 13-point scoring run to go up 55-43. Pepperdine put itself back into a position of a six-point game, 60-54, heading into the final quarter. UCLA went on another run extending the lead by 10 points, 71-61, with under five to go in the game. Each team went on an eight-point run, with the Bruins taking the victory after a long fought battle, 78-69.

QUOTABLE

Pepperdine Coach Kristen Dowling said: "Our team played their hearts out! I know we were winning the rebounding battle in the first. They were the number one team in the country last year in terms of rebounding. I couldn't be more proud of how hard they played. That was a three-possession game to a team that's ranked 20th in the country.

"We're a young team, a very young team and now our challenge is to not take our foot off the gas and have the same mentality for Eastern Washington that we had against UCLA."
