#6 Waves Rout LMU 4-0

LOS ANGELES, California – The #6 Pepperdine women's soccer team earned a 4-0 West Coast Conference victory over rival Loyola Marymount on Saturday afternoon. The Waves marked a new school record winning streak with their 10th straight win and collected their sixth straight shutout, which ties the school record (2004).

Four different Waves found the back of the net including Calista Reyes who scored her fifth career goal in the PCH Cup series, while Devyn Gilfoy had a goal and an assist. The Waves (12-1-0, 3-0-0) had seven shots before the Lions (0-13-0, 0-3-0) tallied their first shot. Pepperdine outshot LMU 22-3 and has outshot every opponent faced this season.

The four-goal victory is the largest margin for either team in the annual PCH Cup series and the Waves have now won five in a row against the Lions.

GOALS
Pepperdine 18': Freshman forward Tabitha LaParl (Lakewood, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) sent a pass from the inside left side of the box to junior midfielder Carlee Giammona (Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde HS/Alabama) who sent a right-footed tap from six yards out into the back of the net. This was Giammona's fifth goal of the season.

Pepperdine 37': Gilfoy (Brentwood, Calif./Liberty HS), redshirt senior forward, sent a cross from the right side of the box to Reyes (Las Vegas, Nev./Sierra Vista HS) who sent a right-footed shot past the Lions' goalkeeper. This was Reyes' second goal of the season.

Pepperdine 56': Sophomore midfielder Julianna Duckett (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga HS) sent a high pass from midfield to Gilfoy crashing in from the left side of the field. As the Lions' goalkeeper came out to play the ball, Gilfoy made a swift move around and sent a left-footed tap into the net. This was Gilfoy's fourth goal of the season and second game of the season with a goal and an assist.

Pepperdine 89': Senior forward Leyla McFarland (Bonita, Calif./Eastlake HS) sent a cross on goal that was deflected by the Lions' goalkeeper, but landed right on the foot of freshman forward Kelsey Adams (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly HS) who sent the right-footed tap into the net. This was Adams' first goal as a Wave.

QUOTABLE

Pepperdine Head Coach Tim Ward said: " I am super proud of the ladies today and the result in the annual PCH Cup derby. All of the goals were wonderful and there were so many special plays in the game by many different players.

"All of the goal scorers and goal creators deserve their praise…Carlee, Calista, Devyn and Kelsey Adams all scored meaningful goals. Carlee's been working so hard and deserved that goal and finished off a brilliant cross by Tabitha. Calista has scored vs. LMU four of her last five years which is a crazy stat. Devyn has been through so much and besides setting up Calista for her strike, Dev scored such a cool goal…if anyone deserved that moment it was her!  Finally, Kelsey Adams got her first collegiate goal and we're pretty sure that will be the first of many for her.

"There are so many other things that don't show up on the scoresheet that happened today. The work our midfielders and defenders do is so instrumental to how we play and they all did a beautiful job today as well as Zoe continuing to be so strong in goal. Overall, it was another good day for the Waves!"

NOTABLE
  • Pepperdine's 12-1-0 start is the best in program history after 13 games.
