QUOTABLE
Pepperdine Head Coach
Tim Ward said: "That was a great result for us today against a very talented Gonzaga team. Chris (Watkins) and his staff – they play hard. I didn't think we started great; they had more energy for the first five to 10 minutes and then we figured some things out and got going in the right direction.
"As far as the first goal, Tabi following it up is something we talked about in the locker room prior to the match. She has that optimistic, goal-scoring mentality. The second goal – we talk about set pieces a lot, we don't work on them as much as people think but Trin had a great delivery, Carlee putting the ball back into play was great and then we had a really nice finish by
Kelsey Hill who got the final touch so that was fantastic.
"Getting into the half up two, with the way the game was going, the next goal would be huge. We made a couple of adjustments; the girls came out in the second half and really did a nice job. Tori had a fantastic moment of individual brilliance – that was an incredible goal.
"We're excited about it for the next day or so but we've got to get back to work on Monday with a tough week and a tough rest of the fall ahead of us. Another shutout today as our defense was tested and they were great. We know that shutouts and great defense are a recipe for championship soccer and we're going to do our best to stay hungry, stay humble, stay sharp and take it one day at a time. It's a great day to be a Wave!"
