SAN DIEGO, CaliforniaTori Waldeck scored twice within three minutes and 15 seconds in the first half as the #6 Pepperdine women's soccer team continued its best start to the season defeating San Diego 4-0 on Wednesday night in West Coast Conference play.

The Waves (11-1-0, 2-0-0) kept the trend rolling, outshooting the Toreros (5-6-0, 0-2-0) 22-10. Pepperdine now has eight shutouts on the season, the fifth in a row and Zoe Clevely has her seventh solo shutout for the season.

GOALS

Pepperdine 26': The Toreros sent a backwards pass that was intercepted by Waldeck (Newhall, Calif./Hart HS) who crashed toward the left side of the box and sent a left-footed shot right past the goalkeeper. This was Waldeck's fifth of the season.

Pepperdine 29': Freshman forward Tabitha LaParl (Lakewood, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) started the attack at midfield and sent a pass to senior forward Leyla McFarland (Bonita, Calif./Eastlake HS) on the left side. McFarland took the ball into the box and sent a cross to Waldeck who sent a left-footed tap into the back of the net. This was Waldeck's sixth of the season and marks her second two-goal game of the season.

Pepperdine 45': Pepperdine earned a corner kick with eight seconds left in the first half that was taken by senior defender Trinity Watson (Ocean Beach, Calif./Point Loma HS) from the left corner. Off the kick, redshirt forward Devyn Gilfoy (Brentwood, Calif./Liberty HS) went through two Torero defenders and sent a right-footed tap past the goalkeeper. This marks Gilfoy's third of the season.

Pepperdine 70': Redshirt senior forward Joelle Anderson (San Jose, Calif./The Harker School) sent a pass to sophomore defender Victoria Romero (Claremont, Calif./The Webbs School), who sent a quick high pass towards the goal. Junior midfielder Shelby Little (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Hillcrest Christian HS) came sprinting in between two Torero defenders to get the right-footed shot off into the net. This was Little's second goal of the season.

QUOTABLE

Pepperdine Head Coach Tim Ward said: "I'm so proud of this group! What a result against a very organized and hardworking USD squad! They were on us early and yet Tori's first goal got us back on track. The second goal was an absolute beauty, brilliant build up as I think Tab slid Leyla through and then Ley's cross to Tori was perfect, and the finish was cool as you like. The third goal was probably a huge blow for them as Devyn bravely converted on a corner right before half and going into halftime 3-0 is a big deal. The final goal was also a thing of beauty as Shelby buried a perfect cross by Victoria.

"The defense was tested in a big way tonight and responded with a proper WCC defensive display. Shutouts are a big deal anytime you can get them and we're so proud of our group. Overall, awesome performance and result for the Waves tonight"
