Men's Water Polo Senior Day Coming Up on Saturday

MALIBU, California — The #9 Pepperdine men's water polo team puts its seven-game winning streak on the line this weekend with a couple of key games. The Waves host #6 Pacific on Saturday for Senior Day and an important Golden Coast Conference matchup, and then visit #1 UCLA for a non-conference contest on Sunday.
GAME #21 — Saturday (Oct. 23) at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool in Malibu, Calif.: #9 Pepperdine (13-7, 1-0) vs. #6 Pacific (8-8, 2-0) at 11 a.m.
GAME #22 — Sunday (Oct. 24) at the Spieker Aquatics Center in Los Angeles, Calif.: #9 Pepperdine at #1 UCLA (15-1) at 12 p.m.
WATCH/ONLINE — Saturday's game will be webstreamed via WaveCasts. Sunday's game will be streamed at Pac-12.com. Links to broadcasts and live stats will be available at PepperdineWaves.com.
TICKETS — Tickets to all Pepperdine home men's water polo games in 2021 will be available via e-ticket ONLY. Patrons must purchase tickets to any event prior to arriving on campus. Individuals without tickets to an event will not be allowed on campus. Pepperdine faculty, staff and students must show Pepperdine ID card for entry — no ticket purchase is required. To purchase e-tickets and read the spectator guidelines, visit: https://gowav.es/WavesTix. Due to campus construction, nearby parking may be limited and guests are advised to arrive early. There is also limited bleacher seating and fans may choose to bring chairs or blankets to sit on the hillside above the pool.
SENIOR DAY — Fans should arrive a few minutes early on Saturday for a pregame ceremony honoring Pepperdine's seniors. The Waves who will be recognized are Coleman Carpenter, Michael Dakis, Sean Ferrari, Jake Gordon, Balazs Kosa, John Claude Marco, Matt Outcalt, Max Sprute and Spencer Tybur. Some of the players on this list are eligible to utilize a COVID-19 redshirt year and may return for 2022.
OPPONENTS — Pepperdine is 57-35-1 all-time against Pacific after a 20-15 loss at the MPSF Invitational earlier this season. The Waves are 22-7 in home games against the Tigers ... Pepperdine is 31-79-1 all-time against UCLA. The Waves' last win over the Bruins was in 2008, and their last road win was in 2007.Â
LAST WEEK — The Waves opened up GCC play with a 9-6 home win over #14 UC Irvine. Nicholas Fichman scored three goals, Balazs Kosa had two goals and four assists and John Claude Marco recorded 10 saves. Pepperdine jumped out to a 5-2 lead after the first quarter.
HONORS — Jake Howerton was named GCC Player of the Week on October 7. He had 11 goals in three victories, including a career-high five goals in the win against #2 California.
MILESTONES & MOMENTS — Pepperdine's 16-14 home win over #2 California on October 3 was the program's first over a top-two ranked team since 2008 (#2 Stanford) .. On September 18 against Princeton, Balazs Kosa became the 12th Wave ever to record 200 goals ... On September 16 against UC Santa Barbara, Sean Ferrari became the 43rd Wave to hit the century mark in career goals.
GCC STATS — Balasz Kosa is first in assists (35) and tied for second in points (69) ... Sean Ferrari is tied for sixth in assists (23) and seventh in points (54) ... Nico Tierney is eighth in assists (20) ... Kyle Thomas is tied for ninth in assists (18) ... John Claude Marco is fourth in saves (150).
KOSA — Senior attacker Balazs Kosa is putting together one of the best careers in Pepperdine history. He's a three-time All-American, making the third team in 2018, the second team in 2019 and the first team in 2020-21. He led the country in scoring during the abbreviated spring 2021 season, scoring 39 times in 14 games. He scored 93 goals in the full 2019 season. Kosa ranks eighth all-time at Pepperdine with 219 career goals.
