MALIBU, California – The #6 Pepperdine women's soccer team opened up West Coast Conference play at home with a 3-0 victory against Portland on Saturday afternoon. The Waves marked a new best start to the season, collecting 10 wins through the first 11 games.
Carlee Giammona scored within the first two minutes for the Waves and had an assist, while
Trinity Watson and
Tori Waldeck found the back of the net in the second half. The Waves (10-1-0, 1-0-0) continued the trend of outshooting their opponents, and outshot the Pilots (4-5-0, 0-1-0) 17-4.
The Waves now have seven shutouts on the season, got their fourth in a row and
Zoe Clevely collected her sixth solo shutout of the season.

Pepperdine 2': Redshirt senior forward
Joelle Anderson (San Jose, Calif./The Harker School) sent a beauty of a floating pass from the left side of the field to Giammona (Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde HS/Alabama), who was lined up on the right side of the goal and beat the goalkeeper with a right-footed shot. This marks Giammona's fourth of the season and one of the fastest Waves' goals this season.
Pepperdine 68': Waldeck (Newhall, Calif./Hart HS) drew a foul from the Portland goalkeeper, which resulted in a penalty kick. Watson (Ocean Beach, Calif./Point Loma HS) took the kick inside the box and beat the goalkeeper. This marks Watson's fourth goal of the season and she is now three-for-three in penalty kicks.
Pepperdine 72': Giammona crashed the offensive zone and sent a left-footed pass to Waldeck on the right side of the box. Waldeck pulled up and sent a 22-yard right-footed rocket past the goalkeeper into the back of the net. This marks Waldeck's fourth goal of the season.
