Waves Fall at Home to San Francisco

Box Score MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's basketball team played its first of three games in the next four days on Thursday night, falling to San Francisco 68-54. Cheyenne Givens led the Waves with 13 points, and Monique Andriuolo had her second straight double-double.

The Waves (3-8, 0-7 WCC) outrebounded the Dons (8-8, 4-6 WCC), but unrelenting offense gave the Dons the victory.

BIG WAVES
  • Junior guard Cheyenne Givens (Gardena, Calif./LA Trade Tech) had a team-high 13 points. She shot 4-for-11 from the field and made one three-pointer. She also had three rebounds and a steal.
  • Senior Forward Monique Andriuolo (Melbourne, Australia/Maribyrnong Secondary College) had her second double-double in as many games, scoring 10 points and bringing down a season-high 16 boards.
  • Redshirt-sophomore Jayda Ruffus-Milner (North Hills, Calif./Harvard-Westlake HS) was a point and a rebound away from a double-double.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Waves had the hot hand to start the game, scoring the first four points. The Dons tied the game at seven points apiece, and then took a 13-9 lead, which they would not relinquish for the rest of the game. San Francisco led 16-12 after the first quarter. The Dons led by as many as nine points in the second quarter and went into the halftime break with a 31-24 lead over the Waves.

San Francisco started the third quarter on an eight-point run, and led by as many as 17 in the quarter. They extended the lead to as many as 18 in the fourth quarter, but the Waves got to within 11 points with a minute to play.

  • The Dons outshot the Waves 44.6% to 33.9%.
  • San Francisco shot the three-pointer drastically better than Pepperdine. The Waves made just one shot from beyond the arc all game, while the Dons made 10.
