#5 Waves Blank Wisconsin 4-0 to Open Season

MALIBU, Calif. – The fifth-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team took no time in earning their first win of the season after a 4-0 blanking against Wisconsin in the first round of the 2021 ITA Kickoff.

The Waves will take on the winner of #17 USC and Denver tomorrow at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center for the championship and an automatic bid to the ITA National Team Indoors.

After a full day of rain delays and hail, the Waves finally returned to action on Sunday morning. Starting off with doubles play, Shiori Fukuda and Astrid Olsen struck first, defeating the likes of Wisconsin's Xinyu Cai and Ava Markham 6-0, paving the way for a 6-2 win on court two from Ashley Lahey and Nikki Redelijk for the clinch point.

Singles play needed only just about an hour to complete, as #33 Jessica Failla earned the second team point for the Waves with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Markham on court two. Freshman Nikki Redelijk took her first win as a Wave over Charmaine Seah on court six, 6-1, 6-1 to put Pepperdine up 3-0.

Freshman Taisiya Pachkaleva clinched the match for the Waves with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court five and in her first outing in a Pepperdine uniform.
