Waves Add Transfer Cydney Rivera to Squad

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's basketball team adds more collegiate experience with the signing of junior college transfer Cydney Rivera, head coach Kristen Dowling announced on Tuesday.

The 5-foot-8 guard joins the team after one year of college ball at Towson University in Maryland, and one year at Collin College in Cypress, Texas. While playing at Collin, Rivera scored 8.5 points per game over 30 games played, adding 101 rebounds and 77 assists and named an All-NJCAA Division I All-Region honorable mention.

She also played for the Puerto Rico U19 team at the 2017 FIBA U19 World Cup.

"Cydney is an experienced college point guard," said Dowling. "She has international experience that is invaluable as she played with the Puerto Rico U19 team. She understands what it takes to be successful at the DI level. She has an extremely strong work ethic and will add great experience to our program.  Cydney is the final piece we were looking for to complete our 2020 class. We are excited to add someone of Cydney's caliber to our program."

"I chose Pepperdine because coach Kristen Dowling's values as a head coach match the values I was raised upon," said Rivera. "The education is top-notch and ranked as one of the best private schools on the West Coast. The location was a plus because it is on the beach! Pepperdine has been my dream destination to play collegiate basketball!"

Rivera is one of seven newcomers to the Waves, joining fellow transfers Eve Braslis and Becky Obinma and freshmen Kendyl Carson, Isabel Montoya, Jane Nwaba and Rosemary Odebunni.
