CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Pepperdine women's swimming and diving team completed the first and only day of the National Invitational Championships. Although the CSCAA cut the final two days of the meet, the Waves had a historic first day.
During prelims,
Julianna Birlin had an outstanding swim in the 100 individual medley, swimming a 59.05 in time trials and setting a new school record. The school record was previously set at NIC last year by 2019 graduate,
Julianna Chan at 1:00.09.
In the 50 breaststroke,
Emily Morton led the Waves with a time of 30.78, followed by
Jenna Sanchez who swam a 31.19. The next event for the Waves was the 50 backstroke, where
Jasmine Williams swam a 26.35 to qualify for the consolation final.
In finals, Williams improved by one, one hundredth of a second to swim a 26.34 and earn 17th place overall.
The final event that the Waves swam was the 200 freestyle relay, where the squad of Birlin, Sanchez,
Sammie Slater and Williams swam a 1:35.66 which was good for 20th place.
