
Waves Break Two School Records On Day One

EAST LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's swimming and diving team completed the first of four days of competition today at the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference championships. On the first day, the women broke two school records in the 200-medley relay and 800 freestyle relay. Â
The first event of the day was the women's 1-meter diving competition. Sophomore Paulina Holmberg led the Waves in the event, posting a personal-best score of 234.40 and taking third place. Holmberg was followed by Olivia Stotz who took sixth with a score of 203.90. Isabella Wanninger rounded out the divers with a personal-best score of 140.70, good for 16th.

The first swimming event of the day was the women's 1,000 freestyle. The Waves were led by senior Khloe McCarthy who took 12th with a season-best time of 10:38.09. Sophia Anderson took 17th, swimming a 10:45.91 and Olivia Kayye received 21st with a 10:57.91.

The next race was the women's 200 medley relay, in which the team of Jasmine Williams, Emily Morton, Sarah Hamilton and Amy Griffin took second place and a new school record. Their time of 1:45.01 beat the previous record by seven-tenths of a second which was set at last year's conference championships.

The final event on the day was the 800 freestyle relay. The squad of Sammie Slater, Nohea Lileikis, Morton and Paige Brackett split a 7:33.84 which earned them first place and a new school record. They broke the previous record of 7:37.86 by four seconds, which was also set at last year's conference championships and featured Slater and Brackett.
Swimming prelims will begin again tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. with finals set to start at 5 p.m.Â
