
Swim/Dive Break Another Record On Day Two

EAST LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's swimming and diving team completed the second of four days of competition today at the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference championships. On day two they set another school record in the 200 freestyle relay. Â
Pepperdine took home their sole win of the day in the 200 freestyle relay swimming a 1:34.43. Jasmine Williams led off for the Waves splitting a 24.01, she was followed by Julianna Birlin going a 23.53 to Jenna Sanchez with a 23.72 and Amy Griffin anchored with an impressive 23.17. They beat the previous record of 1:36.52, that was set last year, by over two seconds.

The first individual event of the day was the 500 free, wherein Nohea Lileikis posted a 5:01.17 in prelims which is 3rd all-time in school history and took 6th overall in finals. Khloe McCarthy was right behind Lileikis, posting a 5:05.00 which was good for 9th. Paige Brackett finished in 14th and Sophia Anderson took 18th.

The next event was the 200 individual medley, which featured four finalists for the Waves. Birlin was the top finisher for Pepperdine taking 3rd with a 2:06.15 which was also 2nd all-time in school history. Following Birlin was Emily Morton in 7th, Kendall Brown in 11th and Caroline Anderson in 19th.

The final event of the day was the 50 freestyle where four swimmers made final appearances. In prelims, all four athletes posted personal best times. Griffin swam a 23.72 in the morning which was good for 3rd in school history, followed by Williams with a 23.94, Sanchez at 23.98 and Sammie Slater at 24.32. In finals, Sanchez took 5th, Griffin was 6th, Williams in 7th and Slater earned 11th.

After day two, the Waves are in second place with 432 points, just behind reigning conference champions Cal State East Bay who have 461 points.
Swimming prelims will begin again tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. with finals set to start at 5 p.m.Â
