WAVEPOINTS
• The Pepperdine men's basketball team lost one Mountain West opponent this weekend but gained another. After Fresno State had to cancel Saturday's planned contest in Malibu, the Waves found a replacement in Sunday's road tilt at San Diego State.
• It will be the first meeting between the Waves and Aztecs since the 1994-95 season — but the third time in 12 days that Pepperdine will play in Viejas Arena after earlier taking part in SDSU's multi-team event.
• Next week's home game against California (Wednesday, Dec. 9) has been moved to CBS Sports Network with a 6 p.m. start.
• Colbey Ross earned another big accolade in the past week when he was named to the Wooden Award watch list for National Player of the Year. He's also been named to the Naismith and Cousy preseason watch lists.
• Ross is Pepperdine's all-time leader in both points and assists, among many other school records. Among active Division I players, Ross ranks second in assists (667) and third in points (1,835).
• The Waves are averaging 92.7 points per game after three contests and five Waves are averaging in double-figures — Ross 24.0, Kessler Edwards 18.3, Jan Zidek 13.0, Jade' Smith 12.0, Kene Chukwuka 11.0.
• Chukwuka is coming off his first career double-double with a career-high-tying 13 points and a career-high 11 rebounds against Saint Katherine.Â
• Edwards has 97 career blocks. He's three away from becoming the eighth Wave ever to hit the century mark.
• Smith should make his 50th career start on Sunday.
• Pepperdine is #1 in the country in free throw percentage (90.6%).
• Ross and Edwards were named to the preseason All-WCC team (Pepperdine and Gonzaga were the only schools to put multiple players on the 10-man list).
• The Waves were picked to finish fourth in the WCC preseason coaches' poll.
• Lorenzo Romar is in his third season this time around at Pepperdine, his sixth season in all with the Waves over two stints, and his 24th season as a head coach.
WAVECASTS — The San Diego State game can be heard online via WaveCasts at PepperdineWaves.com. Veteran play-by-play man Al Epstein, a 2015 Pepperdine Athletics Hall of Fame inductee who is now in his 36th season, will be behind the microphone. This will be his 1,073rd consecutive men's basketball broadcast for the Waves.
WATCH — The San Diego State game will be televised by YurView (channel 4 on Spectrum and Cox cable systems in the San Diego area). Elsewhere, it will be available via a live webstream at GoAztecs.com.
PEPPERDINE — Pepperdine boasts a one-of-a-kind athletic department with unprecedented success for a school of its size. The Waves have won NCAA Division I championships in five different men's sports — one of just 18 schools to have accomplished this feat — and nine overall. Of this elite group, Pepperdine has the smallest undergraduate enrollment, is the only school without football and is the only university that has not been affiliated with a "major" conference. The Waves have won a total of 25 team or individual national championships in their history. Pepperdine has also earned the Division I-AAA All-Sports Trophy, an award based on postseason success that's given to the top non-football school, three times (most recently in 2011-12). Located in scenic Malibu, California, the university overlooks the Pacific Ocean and its campus and athletic facilities are regularly voted among the nation's most beautiful. Pepperdine, which is affiliated with the Church of Christ, ranks #49 overall on U.S. News and World Report's list of America's best colleges.
