MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's basketball team suffered its second loss in a row on Monday night, falling to defending West Coast Conference tournament champion Portland 74-64.
Monique Andriuolo had 13 points to lead the team.
The Waves (3-2, 0-1 WCC) led for the first two quarters of play, but the Pilots (4-3, 1-1 WCC) played solid basketball in the second half to come back and win the game.
BIG WAVES
- Senior forward Monique Andriuolo (Melbourne, Australia/Maribyrnong Secondary College) had 13 points, leading the Waves. She also led the Waves in rebounds with nine and shooting percentage, making five of her eight shots.
- Junior guard Malia Bambrick (Santa Clarita, Calif./Bishop Alemany HS) had 12 points and one assist for the Waves.
- Junior guard Cheyenne Givens (Gardena, Calif./LA Trade Tech) also had 12 points, shooting 5-for-11 from the field. She led the Waves with five assists.
- Junior guard Cydney Rivera (Cypress, Texas/Collin College) had 10 points.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Waves got off to a hot start in the first half, scoring 25 points in the first quarter thanks in part to six points from
Jane Nwaba (Carson, Calif./Palisades Charter HS). Givens also had five points to help give the Waves a 27-17 lead after the first ten minutes. In the second quarter, the Waves went up by as many as 10 points, at 29-19, but the Pilots tied the game at 31 with four minutes left. The Waves led 38-37 at the half.
The Pilots took the lead in the third quarter and went up by as many as 12 in the fourth.
