Waves Fall to #23 Gonzaga

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's basketball team suffered its second straight West Coast Conference loss, and third consecutive loss overall, on Wednesday night, falling to #23 Gonzaga 58-42. Malia Bambrick was the only Wave to score in double digits, with 10 points.

The Waves (3-4, 0-2 WCC) put up a solid fight in the first half, tying the Bulldogs (7-2, 2-0 WCC) late in the second quarter before Gonzaga took control in the second half.

  • Junior guard Malia Bambrick (Santa Clarita, Calif./Bishop Alemany HS) led the Waves with 10 points. She also had two rebounds and three assists.
  • Senior forward Monique Andriuolo (Melbourne, Australia/Maribyrnong Secondary College) led the Waves with five rebounds. She also had four points.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
After the Bulldogs started the game on an 8-0 run, the Waves picked up a bit of steam, scoring the final six points of the first quarter, trailing 19-13 after ten minutes. Pepperdine played its best basketball in the second quarter, going on a 9-0 run to tie the game at 26. Gonzaga scored the final four points of the half to take a 30-26 halftime lead.

Gonzaga started the second half on a 9-0 run, and never let the Waves get within nine points, at one point taking a 17-point lead.
