MALIBU, California – Pepperdine sophomore
William Mouw will represent the United States next week at the Arnold Palmer Cup, a Ryder Cup-like competition featuring top college golfers in a U.S. vs. International format.
The event was originally scheduled to be held in July in Ireland, but due to COVID-19 considerations, it was moved to December and will be played at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, Florida. The three-day event runs Monday through Wednesday (Dec. 21-23).
Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) will be the third Pepperdine men's golfer and the fourth Wave ever to compete in the Arnold Palmer Cup, following
Michael Putnam (2005),
Sahith Theegala (2018) and
Hira Naveed (2019).
Mouw had one of the greatest seasons in Pepperdine history as a 2019-20 freshman, earning GCAA/PING All-American first team honors and Golfweek All-American second team status. He was ranked #10 nationally by Golfstat and #15 by Golfweek/Sagarin. He recorded a 69.96 scoring average, #2 on Pepperdine's single-season list and the best-ever by a freshman. He won his first career title at the Amer Ari Invitational.
During the fall season, Mouw had a 70.86 scoring average and recorded a pair of top-10 finishes.
Pepperdine, ranked #2 as a team by both Golfstat and Golfweek/Sagarin, resumes play with its own Southwestern Invitational presented by Topgolf from January 25-27 at North Ranch Country Club. The event will feature live coverage on the Golf Channel.
