Women's Tennis Takes On SoCal Sectionals

MALIBU, Calif. – Four members of the Pepperdine women's tennis team and two Waves who will play unattached head to Costa Mesa on Friday to compete in the USTA's 133rd Annual SoCal Sectionals.
The SoCal Sectionals features players from all over Southern California, ranging from junior players to professionals, spanning from Friday, October 23rd to Sunday, October 25. No fans are allowed within the playing grounds and no doubles will be played as per social distancing guidelines.
1ST ROUND DRAWS – Friday, October 23rd
*Ashley Lahey v. Coquillard/Abdelouhid | 1 p.m.
Nikki Redelijk vs C. Branstine (USC) | 10 a.m.
Lisa Zaar vs E. Goldsmith (USD) | 10 a.m.
Lexi Ryngler vs J. McBride (USD) | 11 a.m.
Astrid Olsen vs T. Cataldi (junior) | 11:30 a.m.
*Jessica Failla vs M. Triplett (junior) | 11:30 a.m.

THE FIELD
The tournament field welcomes accomplished players from the likes of USC, UCLA and fellow West Coast Conference competitor San Diego, but it is Ashley Lahey and Jessica Failla who occupy the top two seeds in the draw. Lahey, coming in with the top seed, will take on the winner of Eve Coquillard and Hind Abdelouahid, while second-seeded Failla takes on junior Mikala Triplett.
Coming off a hot start to the season in the 2020 Oracle/ITA Masters, redshirt freshman Lexi Ryngler opens the weekend against San Diego's Joyce McBride. Ryngler finished the Masters in the tournament semifinals. Fellow freshman Nikki Redelijk will entice USC senior Constance Branstine as her first test, as sophomores Lisa Zaar and Astrid Olsen entertain the likes of USD's Elizabeth Goldsmith and junior player Taylor Cataldi respectively.
