Pepperdine Opens Season with 5-0 Win

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine men's tennis team opened the 2020 dual season with a 5-0 blanking of West Coast Conference opponent Santa Clara on Saturday afternoon.

RECAP
In doubles action, the pair of Enrique Luque Rico and Tim Zeitvogel defeated the 52nd-ranked doubles team in the country in Iliopoulos and Neuhaus 6-3 to take the first doubles match of the day. Adrian Oetzbach and Robert Shelton followed suit, beating  Barajas and Hinojosa 6-3 to clinch the point for the Waves.
 
No match went into three sets in singles, as #38 Corrado Summaria took the first win in a 6-1, 6-1 battle over Barajas to put Pepperdine up 2-0 on the day. Next to finish was Shelton, who achieved his first dual singles win of his collegiate career over Hinojosa 6-2, 6-1.
 
It was Pietro Fellin who clinched the match point, as he defeated Cmager 6-2, 6-1, but was immediately followed by Zietvogel who won 6-1, 6-2 over Shah on court four.
 
UP NEXT
The Waves take on San Francisco and Sacramento State in a Malibu Sunday double-header, with Pepperdine taking on the Dons at noon and then the Hornets at 5 p.m. at Ralphs-Straus.
