Swim/Dive Has Solid First Day At WCC Cup

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's swimming team competed in the first of two days of competition at the WCC Cup, against Loyola Marymount and San Diego. After the first day, San Diego leads with 103.5 points, with the Waves in second with 88.5 points and Loyola Marymount in third with 55.
MEET RECAP
The Waves started the meet off taking second place in the 200 medley relay, with the crew of Caroline Eckel, Emily Morton, Haley Bergthold and Amy Griffin posting a time of 1:48.92, just half a second behind first.

In the 500 freestyle, freshman Nohea Lileikis had the best showing for the Waves, splitting a time of 5:12.17, which was good for third. Pepperdine dominated the 200 individual medley with four athletes scoring in the top eight. Touching in first place was Morton in a time of 2:08.95, followed closely by Julianna Birlin in second posting a 2:13.51. Bergthold and Caroline Anderson rounded out the event, taking sixth and eighth respectively.

Pepperdine also had a solid performance in the 50 freestyle with Griffin taking third in a time of 25.13 and Jasmine Williams in fourth, swimming a 25.20. The Waves took home the final win on the day in the 800 freestyle relay thanks to Morton, Sammie Slater, Lileikis and Khloe McCarthy, who swam a 7:56.08.
NEXT UP: The Waves will be back racing in the WCC Cup tomorrow at LMU with competition beginning at 10 a.m.
