Men's Water Polo Heads to MPSF Invite

MALIBU, Calif. –The No. 6 Pepperdine men's water polo team heads to Los Angeles this weekend, along with 15 other of the nation's top water polo teams for the annual Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Invitational, hosted by UCLA and Loyola Marymount. The Waves' first game of the tournament is against #11 UC San Diego at 6 p.m. on Friday, and will have games both Saturday and Sunday, with times dependent on results.

Game #13: Friday (Sept. 27) at 6:00 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics Center in Los Angeles, Calif.: No. 6 Pepperdine vs. No. 11 UC San Diego (7-3).

Conference Leaders: Balazs Kosa leads all Golden Coast Conference players in assists (17) and points (49) and is second in goals scored (32). Curtis Jarvis is also in the top five in goals scored with 21 and total points wtih 34. Â

Last Week: The Waves split two games on Thursday with Ottawa and UC Santa Barbara. In the first game, the team defeated Ottawa 27-6, with Chris Dilworth and Coleman Carpenter each scoring at least five goals. In the second game, the Waves took #2 UCSB into overtime, but came up a goal short of a victory. In Saturday's home opener against UCLA, the Waves opened the game with a 5-1 lead after the first quarter, but could not keep up with the Bruins, falling 14-12.

MPSF Invite: In last year's edition of the Invite, the Waves took sixth place, defeating GCC rival Pacific 13-9 and UCSD 10-9, before falling to UC Santa Barbara in the fifth-place game 10-6.

National Rankings: The Waves are once again near the top of the Collegiate Water Polo national rankings. The Collegiate Water Polo Association has Pepperdine ranked #6 in the fourth week of the season.

Schroeder: Head Coach Terry Schroeder is in his 27th year of coaching at Pepperdine. His first stint of coaching was from 1986-2005, after which he took an eight-year break to coach the United States National Team.
