Pepperdine Beach Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Accolade

MALIBU, Calif. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced that 1,125 teams have earned the AVCA Team Academic award for 2018-19, including the Pepperdine beach volleyball squad.
The 1,125 teams that earned the honor sets a new all-time high, breaking the previous year's record of 977.
The Waves' beach squad tabbed a 3.356 cumulative grade point average throughout the 2018-19 academic year, after eight eligible players surpassed the required 3.30 GPA mark. The highest grade point average was posted by freshman Peyton Lewis, who amassed a 4.0 after her first year with the Waves. The highest multi-year GPA came from seniors Jenna Tunnell and Madalyn Roh who tallied 3.759 and 3.676 grade point averages respectively.
The AVCA honored 41 collegiate beach volleyball programs, surpassing last year's record of 23.
The award, which began in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.
