MALIBU, California – Four Pepperdine student-athletes have earned 2018-19 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar status, which was recently released by the publication Diverse Issues in Higher Education.
Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars are minority student-athletes with at least sophomore standing who exhibit athletics ability, academic excellence (a minimum 3.20 grade-point average) and community activism. More than 1,000 student-athletes were nominated from across the nation.
Pepperdine's 2018-19 honorees are:
Izabela Garcia-Arce, women's cross country/track (third team)
Jessica Hibler, women's cross country/track (third team)
Laura Ishikawa, women's soccer (second team)
Saul Sandoval-Estrada, baseball (second team)
Sandoval-Estrada was honored for the third time, while this was the second award for Garcia-Arce.
