5/2/2019 7:02:00 PM | Women's Beach Volleyball
GULF SHORES, Ala. – Graduate student Maddie Dilfer of the Pepperdine beach volleyball team was recognized as the recipient of the Elite 90 Award for the 2019 NCAA Division I Beach Volleyball Championship.
Â
Dilfer was honored with the award Thursday evening at the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship Banquet at The Hangout in Gulf Shores. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 90 championships.Â
Â
Dilfer holds a 3.682 grade point average as a graduate student pursuing a Masters of Science in Global Business. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Administration after finishing her undergraduate degree in 2018.
Â
Dilfer earned WCC All-Academic first team honors in both 2018 and 2019, while garnering three-straight WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll 'gold' honors and Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete nods in 2017, 2018 and 2019. She was voted Pepperdine Athletics Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2018 and earned a spot on the Seaver College Dean's List in 2018.
Â
The Elite 90 Award is in its 10th year of existence, but was previously known as the Elite 89, which changed with the addition of beach volleyball to the championships lineup. The Award was instituted to recognize the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.
Â
#4 seed Pepperdine takes on #5 seed LSU in the first round of the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championships on Friday, May 3 at 8 a.m. PT (10 a.m. CT). The match will air live on ESPNU and individual court links can be found on Twitter @WavesBeachVB on the day of competition.
