Waves Fall in Walk-Off Fashion in Finale

PORTLAND, Ore.Trevor Kniskern of the Pepperdine baseball team dazzled over seven innings, but picked up the no-decision when Portland walked-off in the ninth to take game three of the series 2-1 in ten innings.
 
The Waves (23-22, 13-11 WCC) got only three hits all afternoon, while the Pilots (24-25, 6-18 WCC) got nine hits on the day.
 
BIG WAVES
  • Freshman RHP Trevor Kniskern (Lighthouse Point, Fla./Pompano Beach HS) was outstanding over seven innings, allowing just a single, unearned run and striking out three while scattering six hits.
  • Redshirt junior Duncan McKinnon (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Redondo Union HS) drove in the Waves' only run of the day in the fourth inning.
 
GAME RECAP
The Waves got the first run of the game in the fourth inning when, after Quincy McAfee singled up the middle to lead off the inning, Duncan McKinnon singled him in with two outs, giving the Waves the 1-0 lead after four.
 
The Pilots tied the game in the seventh, scoring an unearned run after an error and RBI single. After seven innings, the game was tied at one. The single run was Kniskern's lone blemish on the day, as the freshman went seven full innings, allowing the unearned run and six hits. The score remained the same through nine innings, and the game moved to extras.
 
In extra innings, the Pilots got a runner to second after a single and sacrifice bunt. Matt Kelly then singled down the line, scoring the winning run from second.
 
UP NEXT
The Waves take on UC Santa Barbara on the road on Tuesday in the final non-conference game of the season.
