MALIBU, Calif. –
Billy Cook of the Pepperdine baseball team hit his second home run in as many games as the Waves fell 8-2 to UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday.
The Waves (16-12) outhit the Gauchos (24-5), but could not string any together to get runs on the board.
BIG WAVES
- Sophomore infielder Billy Cook (Monument, Colo./Lewis Palmer HS) continued his hot streak, hitting his second home run in two games and his fifth overall.
- Sophomore infielder Brandt Belk (Houston, Texas/Westside HS) went 2-for-5 on the day, including a triple in the 8th inning.
- Junior infielder Quincy McAfee (Houston, Texas/Westside HS) had the Waves' other RBI on a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Gauchos hit the ground running in the second inning, scoring five runs on a solo home run by Armani Smith and back-to-back singles to take a 5-0 lead after two.
The Waves got their first run in the sixth when Cook hit a ball into deep left-center field, over the fence for a solo home run. After six innings, the Gauchos led 5-1.
In the top of the seventh, UC Santa Barbara scored twice more on two sacrifice flies to take a 7-1 lead after seven innings. The Gauchos then scored in the eighth inning on another sacrifice fly. After eight innings of play, the Gauchos led 8-1.
Pepperdine got the final run of the game in the bottom of the ninth on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly from McAfee, scoring
Cory Wills from third to get to the final, 8-2 score.

The Waves have a quick turnaround this week, as they head to Utah to take on BYU Thursday to Saturday. First pitch on Tuesday is set to 6 p.m. PT.
