9th-Ranked Women's Tennis Handles Portland 4-0

MALIBU, Calif. – The 9th-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team took care of Portland from start to finish on Saturday afternoon, sweeping the Pilots 4-0 at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.

The win puts the Waves at 14-3 overall and 5-0 in West Coast Conference play, not having dropped a point to a conference opponent. Pepperdine will take on USC in the last non-conference match on Tuesday before heading to San Diego on Friday and BYU on Saturday.

MATCH RECAP
The Waves started off going back and forth in doubles play until the pair of Adrijana Lekaj and Dzina Milovanovic took a commanding 6-2 win over Angela Schuster and Laura Okazaki. After a short rally by their Portland opponents, Ashley Lahey and Daria Kuczer won 6-4 to take the doubles point, giving Pepperdine a 1-0 lead.

Anastasia Iamachkine struck first in singles, destroying Angela Schuster 6-0, 6-0. Satsuki Takamura finished second, winning 6-2, 6-1 and putting the Waves up 3-0 overall.
The final point was left up to courts one and two, where Lekaj and Jessica Failla were on their respective match points simultaneously. It was Lekaj who eventually took charge and defeated Jelena Lukic 6-0 and 6-2 to complete the sweep for Pepperdine, 4-0.

The No. 9 Waves travel south again for another non-conference match-up with No. 16 USC on Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Trojans stand 12-2 overall and are 3-0 in Pac-12 play, while also going 2-0 against WCC teams Saint Mary's and Loyola Marymount.
