Six Waves Earn All-WCC Honors; Bauer Named Defensive Player of the Year

MALIBU, Calif. – The #5 Pepperdine beach volleyball team had six Waves garner All-West Coast Conference honors, as announced the league office on Tuesday afternoon. Sophomore Brook Bauer highlighted the awards by earning her second-consecutive top honor, being named WCC Defensive Player of the Year.

Along with Bauer's top honor, she was named to the first team, alongside Heidi Dyer and Deahna Kraft. On second team were Skylar Caputo and Gigi Hernandez. Simone Priebe also earned a spot on the All-Freshman squad to round out the yearly accolades.

Bauer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas HS) was the WCC Freshman of the Year in 2018 as well as a VolleyMob and Volleyball Magazine All-American second team honoree, while also earning All-WCC first team honors in that season. She came back strong in the 2019 season, earning more top honors. This season, she has collected a 17-11 record in the No. 1 position for the Waves, including a 14-7 output alongside Dyer. She has clinched three matches for the Waves this season.

Dyer (San Clemente, Calif./Saddleback Valley Christian HS) also picked up first team acclaim after marking a 20-8 overall record this season. Along with her 14-7 output in the No. 1 position, she has gone 6-1 in the No. 2 slot for the Waves. She has clinched two matches this season in the No. 1 spot. In previous seasons, Dyer has earned AVCA and DiG Magazine All-American first team honors (2016) and VolleyMob All-American second team acclaim (2018). She is a two-time All-WCC first teamer and earned second team honors in 2017 as well.Â

Kraft (Seattle, Wash./Garfield HS) earned her first team honors after posting a 16-13 overall record this season. The junior has gone 11-9 in the No. 2 position and 5-4 when playing in the top spot.  She has helped clinch seven matches for the Waves this season. Last season, Kraft earned AVCA All-American honorable mention, WCC Defender of the Year, All-WCC first team and Volleyball Magazine All-American second team honors.

Caputo (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS) earned second team acclaim this season after totaling a 17-12 overall record, including a 15-9 output in the No. 3 position for the Waves. She and her partners have helped clinch two matches this season thus far. Caputo has earned a slew of postseason recognition throughout the years, highlighted by VolleyMob All-American first team honors, as well as a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament Team in 2018. She also earned All-WCC first team acclaim in 2018, along with second team nods in 2016 and 2017.

Hernandez (Dana Point, Calif./JSerra Catholic HS) has gone 19-10 overall for the Waves this season, totaling an 18-9 record when playing in the No. 2 position for the Waves. She also tabbed one win in the top-spot and has helped Pepperdine clinch five matches this season. In 2018, Hernandez garnered All-WCC second team honors, while also picking up VolleyMob All-American second team acclaim.

Priebe (Leander, Texas/Vandegrift HS) has amassed a 15-8 overall record this season, including a 15-6 output in the No. 5 position. She has clinched five matches for her team in 2019. The postseason honor is the first of her first career.
