MALIBU, Calif. – The #5 Pepperdine beach volleyball team begins postseason this week as the Waves head over to Ocean Park Beach in Santa Monica for the 2019 West Coast Conference Championships on Friday and Saturday. The Waves have won the previous three WCC Championship titles, with near uncontested results.

WAVES WEATHER – This weekend in Santa Monica calls for a partly cloudy disposition with only a 10% chance of precipitation. There will be a high of 62º and winds will blow south at around 11 miles per hour.
LOOKING AHEAD – After the weekend, pending a berth in the fourth NCAA Tournament, the Waves will travel to Gulf Shores, Ala. from Friday, May 3 to Sunday, May 5 for the national championships.
WCC CHAMPIONSHIPS FIELD – Pepperdine took the top-spot of the tournament for the fourth-straight season with an 18-7 overall record. Loyola Marymount and Saint Mary's are the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds for the second-straight tournament, while San Francisco and Santa Clara are the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds. Portland and Pacific round out the tournament with the No. 6 and No. 7 seeds.
THE #5 WAVES – Pepperdine has gone 18-7 overall this season, with a 10-1 record at Zuma Beach, a 3-2 record on the road and a 5-4 record on neutral soil. The Waves have gone 14-7 against ranked opponents this season as well.

Gigi Hernandez and
Deahna Kraft have spent the most time in the top-two spots for the Waves this season. Bauer and Dyer have gone 10-7 in the top-spot, while Bauer has gone 13-11 in the No. 1 position with multiple partners and Dyer has posted a 16-8 record overall with a 10-7 output at No. 1 and a 6-1 output in the No. 2 position this season.
Gigi Hernandez and
Deahna Kraft have gone 11-6 together in the No. 2 position, while Hernandez has posted a 17-8 record overall with a 16-7 output at the No. 1 position and a 1-0 performance in the top-slot. She also played one match in the No. 3 position. Kraft has gone 14-11 overall with a 5-4 record in the top-spot and a 9-7 record in the No. 2 position.
Skylar Caputo and
Alexis Filippone have spent the most time together, playing primarily in the No. 3 position with an 11-3 record, while also going 1-1 in the No. 4 position.
Nikki Lyons and
Maddie Dilfer have also played mostly as pairs, collecting a 9-5 record overall with a 9-3 record in the No. 4 position and also playing in two matches in the No. 3 position. Multiple teams have played in the No. 5 position with
Simone Priebe and
Katie Gavin collecting an 8-5 record and
Melanie Paul and
Simone Priebe posting a 3-1 record.
OPPONENT NOTES – LMU has gone 20-9 overall this season, while the Waves hold a 10-0 record against the Lions all-time since 2012. Saint Mary's has posted a 17-7 overall record this season and Pepperdine has posted a 7-0 record against the Gaels since 2014. San Francisco has posted a 10-11 record this season, while Santa Clara has marked a 2-13 record. The Waves have posted a 1-0 record against both teams, since 2015 and 2013 respectively. Portland and Pacific have posted a 2-7 and an 0-12 record respectively and while Pepperdine has not faced Portland ever, the Waves have gone 3-0 against the Tigers since 2014.
LAST WEEK – Last week, the Waves made a short trip to #2 USC, falling just short 1-4, before hosting Senior Day at Zuma Beach on Saturday with a pair of matches against #7 Cal Poly and #12 Cal and winning 4-1 in both matches. Against USC,

Maddie Dilfer won both matches 2-0.
