SANTA CRUZ, California – The Pepperdine men's golf team tied for the second-lowest round of the day, led by Clay Feagler's second-straight under-par round and Austin Murphy's albatross, to move up to a tie for fifth place after Tuesday's second round of the Western Intercollegiate.

In this play-six, count-five event, the Waves have a two-day total of 707 (356-351) at the par-70 Pasatiempo Golf Club. The Waves were 1-over on the day, tied with California and only trailing second-place Stanford, which was 4-under. Pepperdine is tied with Oregon for fifth. The #19 Waves are one of four top-20 teams in the field.

PLAYER SCORES

Junior Clay Feagler (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) is tied for second place with a 5-under 135 (67-68). He's one of four players tied for second and will start tomorrow three shots back of the leader. His 2-under on Tuesday featured five birdies, including three in a row on holes 8, 9 and 10.
Freshman Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) is tied for 23rd at 143 (73-70). His even-par round included three birdies, all of which came on the front nine.
Sophomore Austin Murphy (Morgan Hill, Calif./Bellarmine College Preparatory) is also tied for 23rd at 143 (71-72). He had the shot of the day, a double-eagle on the par-5 ninth hole. He had one birdie.
Freshman Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) is tied for 42nd at 146 (76-70). His even-par round included four birdies, three of which came in the final six holes.
Junior Joshua McCarthy (Danville, Calif./De La Salle HS) is also tied for 42nd at 146 (75-71). He had three birdies on Tuesday.
Sophomore RJ Manke (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Preparatory School) is tied for 50th at 147 (70-77). He had two birdies.

UP NEXT

For the third and final round, Pepperdine will be among the first teams to tee off along with Oregon, Colorado State and Arizona beginning at 8:30 a.m. Golf Channel coverage will begin at 1 p.m.
