SANTA CRUZ, California – Clay Feagler shot a 3-under 67 to help get the Pepperdine men's golf team started during a rainy first round at the Western Intercollegiate on Monday.

In this play-six, count-five event, the Waves shot an opening 6-over 356 at the par-70 Pasatiempo Golf Club, good for seventh place out of 13 teams. They're 10 strokes behind the leader, San Jose State, but just three shots out of fourth place.

PLAYER SCORES

Junior Clay Feagler (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) is tied for sixth place after his round, which included five birdies and an eagle on the par-5 sixth hole.
Sophomore RJ Manke (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Preparatory School) is tied for 14th place after an even-par 70. He was 2-over at the turn but had three birdies and one bogey on the back nine. He posted a birdie on the tricky 18th hole, one of just five on the day.
Sophomore Austin Murphy (Morgan Hill, Calif./Bellarmine College Preparatory) is tied for 21st after a 1-over 71. He had six birdies today. Three of them came on a four-hole stretch between six and nine. He had three in a row between holes 11 and 13. His round ended with five consecutive pars.
Freshman Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) is tied for 43rd after a 73. He had two birdies during his round.
Junior Joshua McCarthy (Danville, Calif./De La Salle HS) is tied for 55th after a 75. He had three birdies.
Freshman Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) is tied for 63rd after a 76. He had one birdie.

UP NEXT

Pepperdine will be paired with California again on Tuesday and they'll be the first group to go off, beginning at 9:30 a.m. on the first tee. Golf Channel coverage will begin at 4 p.m.
