STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pepperdine baseball team had its second game against Pacific on Saturday, falling 3-2.
Matthew Kanfer had three hits for the Waves.
The Waves (14-9, 5-3 WCC) and Tigers (14-13, 2-6 WCC) were relatively throughout the entire game before the Tigers scored the decisive run in the seventh inning.
BIG WAVES
- Senior outfielder Matthew Kanfer (Playa Del Rey, Calif./L.A.C.E.S.) had the best day for the Waves, going 3-for-4 and scoring one run.
- Sophomore infielder Billy Cook (Monument, Colo./Lewis Palmer HS) had one of two RBI on the day for the Waves, an RBI single up the middle.
- Sophomore outfielder Reese Alexiades (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS) had the other RBI for the Waves, a sacrifice fly.
- Senior LHP Easton Lucas (Simi Valley, Calif./Grace Brethren HS) gave up just two runs in six innings, but picked up the no decision.
GAME RECAP
The Waves got on the board first, on a second-inning sacrifice fly from Alexiades, scoring
Aharon Modlin from third. After two innings, the Waves had a 1-0 lead.
Pepperdine got another run on the board in the fourth inning after Kanfer led off with a triple and Cook singled up the middle to bring him home, giving the Waves a 2-0 lead after three and a half.
Pacific tied the game in the bottom half of the fourth, first on an RBI groundout, and then on a bunt single with the bases loaded. After four innings, the score was tied 2-2.
The Tigers scored the final, decisive run in the seventh inning, on an RBI single, giving Pacific the final, 3-2 lead.
