PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Bulldogs started off hot, getting a leadoff triple from Guthrie Morrison, who was then brought in on a sacrifice fly, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead after one.
Pepperdine broke through in the bottom of the third when, after two walks, McAfee doubled down the left field line, scoring
Mike Malinchak from second and
Mitchell Dickson all the way from first to give the Waves a 3-1 lead after three innings of play.
In the fourth,
Aharon Modlin walked, and on the very first pitch of his at-bat, Alexiades blasted a ball to the power alley in left center field, over the palm trees for a two-run blast that gave the Waves a 4-1 lead after four.
Gonzaga threatened in the top of the sixth, when a bases-loaded single scored their second run of the day. A double play that started with Chandler ended the threat to limit the damage, preserving a 4-2 lead.
Both pitchers were outstanding as Mason Wells from Gonzaga threw eight full innings, and Chandler threw seven.
