MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine baseball team jumped ahead by scoring seven runs in the first inning to defeat CSUN 9-5 on Wednesday. Both Reese Alexiades and Joe Caparis had three RBI apiece.

The Waves (10-7, 2-1 WCC) led for the entirety of the game, but the Matadors (9-13) made a comeback in the ninth.

  • Sophomore outfielder Reese Alexiades (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS) went 3-for-4 on the day, including an RBI double in the first, as well as an RBI single in the second.

GAME RECAP
The Waves came out of the gate red-hot. After an error allowed Matt Kanfer to reach, Billy Cook doubled down the line to score Kanfer from second. Alexiades then hit a scorcher to short, breaking through for a single, scoring both Cook and Aharon Modlin, who singled earlier in the inning. Then, after two more singles, Caparis doubled to deep left center, clearing the bases and scoring Alexiades, Cory Wills and Mike Malinchak. Caparis was then brought in by Wyatt Young, who led the inning off, and got the Waves a 7-0 lead after one inning of play.

Alexiades singled in the second, bringing in Kanfer and pushing the Waves lead to 8-0 after two.

Morrow started the game for the Waves and cruised to seven solid innings, where he only allowed five hits, while striking out five Matadors.

The Waves scored their final run in the sixth inning on a Kanfer single to lead by a score of 9-0 after six.

The Matadors made a comeback in the ninth, as they had two RBI-singles and a 3-run home run by Wesley Ghan-Gibson to cut the Waves lead to 9-5, but could not complete the comeback.
