WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – Clay Feagler of the Pepperdine men's golf team has a one-shot lead after Monday's first two rounds at the Waves' own Southwestern Invitational, while as a team Pepperdine stands in fifth place.

The Waves got off to a rough start and shot a 296 in the morning round at the par-72 North Ranch Country Club to put them into eighth place, but they bounced back with an even-par 288 in the afternoon to move up three spots.

Only six of the 12 teams finished their second round before darkness set in. The top five teams all were able to finish: USC (569), UCLA (574), California (578), Tennessee (581) and Pepperdine (584).

PLAYER SCORES

Junior Clay Feagler (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) has a 9-under 135 (69-66) and leads USC's Justin Suh by one shot. Feagler had four birdies and just one bogey in a 3-under morning round, then had seven birdies and just one bogey in a 6-under afternoon round. He had a run of four birdies in five holes on the front nine, then three consecutive birdies on 15, 16 and 17 on the back nine.
Sophomore RJ Manke (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Preparatory School) is tied for 33rd at 149 (76-73). He had six birdies on the day, four in the second round.
Junior Joshua McCarthy (Danville, Calif./De La Salle HS) is tied for 41st at 151 (76-75). Four of his seven birdies came in the second round.
Freshman Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) is tied for 43rd at 152 (75-77). He had four birdies in each round.
Freshman Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) is tied for 50th at 154 (80-74). He had five birdies on the day.
The Waves' two individuals, sophomore Austin Murphy (Morgan Hill, Calif./Bellarmine College Preparatory) and senior Roy Cootes (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS), did not finish their rounds. Murphy is currently tied for 23rd and Cootes is tied for 43rd.

UP NEXT

The second round will resume at 7:30 a.m. Teams will then be repaired and the third and final round will then begin via tee times at approximately 9 a.m.
