Feagler 2nd, Waves 4th at Southwestern Invitational

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, California – Clay Feagler took second place and the Pepperdine men's golf team was fourth as play wrapped up on Tuesday at the Waves' own Southwestern Invitational.

The Waves had a two-day total of a 5-over 869 (296-288-285) at the par-72 North Ranch Country Club. Led by RJ Manke's 3-under today, Pepperdine's final-round team score of 3-under tied the second-best round of the day.

All five teams that finished in the top five are ranked in Golfstat's top 50, including the #12 Waves and the winner, #7 USC. The Trojans won in dramatic fashion as medalist Justin Suh birdied the 18th hole to give USC a one-stroke victory over California.

Pepperdine continued a streak of finishing in the top five at all seven tournaments this school year.

- Junior Clay Feagler (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) entered Tuesday with a one-shot lead but settled for second place with an 8-under 208 (69-66-73). He had a strong finish, getting three of his four birdies on the day over the final four holes. He had 15 birdies in all, tied for second-most in the tournament. It's his fourth top 10 in seven tournaments and his third top-five showing.
- Sophomore RJ Manke (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Preparatory School) picked up his third top-20 result of the season with a tie for 15th place at 218 (76-73-69). His final-round 3-under included three birdies and an eagle, all of which came in a five-hole stretch on the back nine.
- Junior Joshua McCarthy (Danville, Calif./De La Salle HS) had a strong final round to move up to a tie for 20th at 221 (76-75-70). He had five birdies during his 2-under round today and 12 overall. He's been in the top 20 at six of seven tournaments.
- Playing as an individual, sophomore Austin Murphy (Morgan Hill, Calif./Bellarmine College Preparatory) tied for 20th at 221 (72-76-73). All three of his birdies today came in his first seven holes. He had 12 birdies total.
- Freshman Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) tied for 38th at 225 (75-77-73).
- Freshman Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) tied for 48th at 227 (80-74-73). His final round included four birdies.
- Senior Roy Cootes (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS), playing as an individual, tied for 48th at 227 (75-78-74). His final round had four birdies.
