#20 Waves Downed by #27 Michigan on the Road

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The #20 Pepperdine women's tennis team was downed by #27 Michigan on Friday afternoon at the Varsity Tennis Center. After falling in doubles, the Waves were unable to pick up momentum in singles for the 4-0 road loss.
The Waves (3-3) fought well in singles, seeing three players reach 6-6 tiebreak options with the Wolverines (4-1). Freshman Daria Kuczer was able to secure a 7-6 (6) set win in the No. 4 position over #21 Chiara Lommer. In an absolute battle, #74 Ashley Lahey went toe-to-toe with #8 Kate Fahey, before succumbing to a 13-11 tiebreak loss.

Doubles was tight from start to finish with the Waves and Wolverines. Each side worked up to late action in their respective sets, but Michigan was able to put down wins on courts one and two with a pair of 6-4 set scores. Adrijana Lekaj and Satsuki Takamura were still neck-and-neck with their opposition, Bella Lorenzini and Anca Craciun, as each side had reached the 5-point mark before doubles was clinched.
In singles, the Wolverines used the momentum from doubles to amass a lead on three courts in the first set. Ashley Lahey, Daria Kuczer and Anastasia Iamachkine worked point-for-point against their opponents, seeing 6-6 tiebreak opportunities in the first set. On court four, Kuczer would handle #21 Chiara Lommer with a 7-6 (6) score. The results were not the same on courts one and six for Lahey and Iamachkine respectively. #74 Lahey faced #8 Kate Fahey, reaching a 11 tie before the Wolverine pulled ahead and took the set win. The first set on court six ended with a 6-7 (6) set loss.
On courts two, three and five, however, the Wolverines had the edge from the beginning. First, Satsuki Takamura lost 6-1, 6-2 to #31 Brienne Minor. Then, Adrijana Lekaj was downed 6-2, 6-2 by #85 Giulia Pairone on court two, before Alyvia Jones sealed the win for Michigan with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Dzina Milovanovic on court five.
