#20 Waves Upset #10 Northwestern 5-2

EVANSTON, Ill.. – The #20 Pepperdine women's tennis team came out strong on Sunday morning against #10 Northwestern, winning the doubles point and then continuing on towards a 5-2 road victory at Combe Tennis Center.
Ashley Lahey, Anastasia Iamachkine and Adrijana Lekaj, Satsuki Takamura collected the doubles wins necessary to clinch for the Waves (4-3), and Lahey, Iamachkine, Dzina Milovanovic and Daria Kuczer followed up with singles wins to close the day on top. Lahey and Iamachkine defeated their #20 ranked opponents in doubles to secure the clinch, while Lahey's singles victory also came over #30 Hand in the No. 1 position.

The Waves opened in doubles with a tight battle on all courts. Adrijana Lekaj and Satsuki Takamura were the first to break away, however, as the pair downed Caroline Pozo and Rheeya Doshi in the No. 3 position with a 6-2 result.
On court one, Ashley lahey and Anastasia Iamachkine then went to a 4-4 score with their ranked opponents, #20 Clarissa Hand and Lee Or. The Waves would pick up the first advantage and continue en route towards a 6-4 set win to clinch the doubles point. The match on court two went unfinished.
In singles, it was clear all matches would be tight from start to finish, though the Waves were able to collect first set wins on three courts.
Dzina Milovanovic was the sole Wave to finish her match in two sets, defeating Doshi 6-4, 6-2 on court five to put the Waves up by two. Daria Kuczer won her first set 6-3 before Carolina Pozo took a 6-2 set of her own to force a third. Kuczer rallied in the third, though, and put the Waves in a position to clinch after winning her final set 6-1. =
Iamachkine fell in her first set 6-3, but dominated the second 6-1 to force her third set. With the match on the line, she stepped up and put down Carol Finke to clinch the victory for her team.
The Wildvats picked up wins on courts two and thre to get on the board, but in the final match of the day, #74 Lahey bested #30 Hand. After falling 7-5 in the first, she won 7-5 herself in the second. In the final set, she put down Hand 6-3 to make the overall win 5-2 on the day.
