#7 Waves Travel to #13 Michigan and #11 Northwestern

MALIBU, Calif. - The 7th-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team has two matches this weekend, traveling to #13 Michigan on Friday and #11 Northwestern on Sunday.
DUAL MATCH 6: #7 Pepperdine vs. #13 Michigan | 4:00 p.m. | Friday, February 22 at the Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, Mich.
DUAL MATCH 7: #7 Pepperdine vs. #11 Northwestern | 9:00 a.m. | Sunday, February 24 at the Combe Tennis Center in Evanston, Ill.

THE WAVES: The Waves are 3-2 this season overall. Senior, Adrijana Lekaj has composed the most singles wins for the Waves with 17 wins, including a 4-0 output in dual matches so far. Lekaj is followed by #13 Evgeniya Levashova who has 16 total singles wins and Anastasia Iamachkine who claims the next highest record with 11 wins this season. Satsuki Takamura is also leading in singles dual wins this season with a 3-1 output.
Throughout singles tournament and dual action combined, #52 Jessica Failla has posted an 9-5 overall record and Ashley Lahey currently has a 7-6 overall season record. Dzina Milovanovic currently holds an 8-6 record on the season.
In doubles this season, the Waves have collected a 7-4 record for a .636 success rate in dual play. #1 Lahey and Levashova paired up for the dual campaign, collecting a 3-1 record so far. The duo has also gone 12-3 overall including tournament play, and 4-1 against nationally ranked opponents. #12 Failla and Iamachkine have amassed a 10-4 overall record including an even 2-1 output in dual play. The pair has gone 5-1 in ranked doubles opposition. Lekaj and Milovanovic have tallied an even 2-2 record including one dual win.
WCC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: The Waves swept the WCC player of the week honors for the second week in a row. The honors went to the 12th-ranked pair of Jessica Failla and Anastasia Iamachkine. The duo was selected as doubles pair of the week after defeating their opponents #22 Anna Bright and Jasie Dunk. Both Failla and Iamachkine added singles wins to their record as well, with Failla defeating #92 Anna Bright in singles to pick up with singles nod as well.
OPPONENT NOTES: Pepperdine visits #13 Michigan this weekend in Ann Arbor. All time, the Waves have gone 3-1 against the Wolverines, dating back to 1983 when Pepperdine took its first 7-2 win in Malibu. The Waves went on to win again in 1997 and 1998, before Michigan won its first match against in 2010 in Malibu.
The Wolverines are currently 3-1 this dual season, picking up wins against #12 Mississippi, Michigan State, and #6 Texas, with their one loss against #24 Syracuse. Michigan boasts five ranked singles athletes, #5 Kate Fahey, #27 Chiara Lommer, #40 Brienne Minor, #71 Giulia Pairone, and #124 Alyvia Jones. The Wolverines also have one ranked doubles pair, #37 Kate Fahey and Brienne Minor.
After their matchup against Michigan, the Waves will travel to Illinois to compete against #11 Northwestern on Sunday February 24th. Dating back to 1978, Pepperdine has gone 8-1 against Northwestern with the first win occurring in 1978, 8-1. The Wild Cats collected their first and only win in 1986 on neutral ground, before the Waves went on a 5 match and current winning streak from 1992-2002.
The Wildcats are currently 5-4 for this double season, defeating University of Illinois, #22 University of Central Florida, #17 Miami, #18 LSU, and Baylor, but falling to #16 Kansas, #2 Vanderbilt, #8 Texas, and Georgia Tech. Northwestern claims two ranked singles players, #59 Clarissa Hand and #72 Julie Byrne. The Wild Cats also have two doubles ranked pairs #39 Caroline Pozo and Carol Finke, and #59 Lee Or and Clarissa Hand.
LAST WEEK AGAINST CAL: Last weekend, the Waves fell 4-3 against Cal at home. The match was highlighted with sweeps from Failla and Iamachkine. The 12th-ranked duo claimed the first win for the Waves in their doubles match against #22 Anna Bright and Jasie Dunk. #52 Failla highlighted in singles by defeating #92 Anna Bright, while Iamachkine and Lekaj also won in singles.
The Waves were also scheduled to meet ASU this past weekend but was match was postponed due to inclement weather.
ORACLE/ITA RANKINGS: The Waves are ranked #7 overall in the Oracle-ITA rankings. In doubles, the pair of Evgeniya Levashova and Ashley Lahey are ranked #1 followed by Jessica Failla and Anastasia Iamachkine who moved up to the #12 spot. Two Waves are ranked in singles, #13 Levashova and #52 Failla.
