LA QUINTA, Calif. – The Pepperdine men's golf team stands in fourth place at The Prestige after Monday's opening round of the spring season.

The Waves shot a 5-over 289 at the par-71 Greg Norman Course at PGA West. Top-ranked Oklahoma State (278) and #16 LSU (279) have separated themselves a bit from the rest of the field, but the #14 Waves are close behind UCLA (286) for third.

PLAYER SCORES

Junior Joshua McCarthy (Danville, Calif./De La Salle HS) is tied for 15th place after an even-par 71. He had five birdies on the day, including a run of three straight on holes nine, 10 and 11.
Freshman Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) is tied for 21st after a 72. He was 3-over at the turn but he was flawless on the back nine and posted two of his three birdies.
Junior Clay Feagler (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) is tied for 24th with a 73. He had three birdies.
Freshman Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) is also tied for 24th with a 73. He had four birdies.
Senior Roy Cootes (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) is tied for 49th after a 76. He had two birdies.

UP NEXT

The second round is Tuesday. Pepperdine is paired with Stanford and Oregon and they'll start on the first tee at 8:25 a.m. The third and final round is Wednesday.
