MALIBU, Calif.— Every member of the Pepperdine women's basketball team scored on Tuesday in the team's 80-56 victory over Cal State Los Angeles in Firestone Fieldhouse.
Yasmine Robinson-Bacote led all scorers with 25 points.
The non-conference game between the Waves (16-8) and the Golden Eagles (8-14) was scheduled to make up for the Waves' game against UC Irvine, which was cancelled in November due to the Woosley Fire.
BIG WAVES
- Yasmine Robinson-Bacote (Hillside, N.J./Hillside HS) led all scorers with 25 points. Robinson-Bacote has scored at least 10 points in every game this year, and this was her 12th 20-point game of the season. She also added 11 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the year.
- Malia Bambrick (Santa Clarita, Calif./Bishop Alemany HS) had 15 points, her seventh game with at least 10 points.
- Barbara Sitanggan (Fullerton, Calif./Troy HS) had 7 points and 10 assists, which led the team.
KEY STATS
- The Waves shot 46.6% from the field.
- Pepperdine brought down an astounding 56 rebounds, compared to just 31 by the Golden Eagles.
- Nineteen of the Waves' baskets were assisted on, 10 more than that of Cal State LA.
GAME RECAP
In the first quarter, the Waves got out to an early lead, scoring the first basket of the game. The Golden Eagles took their lone lead of the ball game with eight-and-a-half minutes left in the first quarter, but the Waves tied the game up almost instantly, and took control of the game from then on. The Waves went on a 7-0 scoring run in the middle of the quarter to take an 18-11 lead after ten minutes of play. The Waves continued to control the game in the second, as they outscored the Golden Eagles 16-11. Robinson-Bacote had eight points in the quarter, and led the Waves to a 34-22 halftime lead.
After the break, the Waves started the second half on an 11-2 run, taking a 19-point lead with five minutes left in the quarter. Pepperdine took its biggest lead of the quarter with 2:44 to play in the third after a
Deezha Battle (Albuquerque, N.M./Cochise College) jumper gave the Waves a 24-point lead. With 10 minutes to play, the Waves had a 55-34 lead. The Golden Eagles came out hot in the fourth quarter, going on an 8-2 run to start the period, cutting the Waves' lead to just 10 points. Pepperdine, however, responded with a 12-3 run of their own, eventually leading to their largest lead of the game, 26 points, sealing the victory.
