Qsar Awarded John Scolinos Award

MALIBU, Calif.— The Pepperdine baseball team had its annual John Scolinos Award dinner on Friday. Jordan Qsar, a 2018 alumni, was given the award, and Emanuel Sifuentes, a 2011 grad, was the keynote speaker.

Due to inclement weather, the annual alumni game was cancelled, so the only item on the agenda for the weekend was the Scolinos Award Dinner.

The John Scolinos Award, given annually, is given to a Pepperdine baseball alumnus for his exemplary behavior during a season or career. The recipient is honored for demonstrating strong character traits, including humility, resourcefulness, loyalty, honesty, work ethic, Christian behavior and sportsmanship.

This year's recipient, Jordan Qsar, had a breakout season as a senior in Malibu. An outfielder from El Cajon, Calif., Qsar hit 13 home runs and had 63 RBI in his final year as a Wave, which was tied for seventh Pepperdine baseball history for a single season. Thanks to his stellar output, he was named West Coast Conference Player of the Year, as well as making the WCC All-Tournament team, and Earning Collegiate Baseball Magazine First Team All-American Honors. A star in the classroom as well, he earned Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete honors as a senior. After helping the Waves to their 24th WCC conference championship, he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 25th round of the 2018 MLB Draft, and is currently playing with the Hudson Valley Renegades, the Rays' Short Season Single-A affiliate.

Emanuel Sifuentes played for the Waves in the 2007, 2008 and 2010 seasons before acting as undergraduate assistant in 2011, director of operations in 2012 and volunteer assistant in 2013. Following his stint as volunteer assistant in '13, he took an internship with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and is currently working with the Seattle Mariners as a coordinator of advanced scouting. Sifuentes gave valuable insight on the world of baseball not as a player, but as a member of a professional organization.

The Waves begin their regular season on Feb. 15 in Arizona for the Angels Collegiate Classic. Their first game is against Cal State Bakersfield, with first pitch scheduled for 11 am PT.
