Women's Basketball Beaten by UNLV

MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine women's basketball had a rough day shooting the ball and the result was a 69-44 home loss to UNLV on Sunday.
 
The Waves (5-3) didn't shoot better than 25.0% in any of the four quarters against the Lady Rebels (3-5).
 
BIG WAVES
  • Junior forward Monique Andriuolo (Melbourne, Australia) was the only Wave to reach double-figures with 12 points on 6-for-9 shooting.
  • Sophomore guard Cheyenne Givens (Gardena, Calif./Serra HS/Los Angeles Trade-Tech) scored a season-high nine points and was the only Wave besides Andriuolo to make multiple field goals.
  • Senior guard Barbara Sitanggan (Fullerton, Calif./Troy HS) had team highs of six assists and three steals.
  • Redshirt freshman guard Jayla Ruffus-Milner (North Hills, Calif./Harvard-Westlake HS) had a team-high seven rebounds.
KEY STATS 
  • The Waves finished at 22.4% shooting for the game compared to 40.0% for the Lady Rebels.
  • Pepperdine shot 5-for-22 in the first half and Andriuolo had all five field goal makes. The rest of the Waves missed their first 18 field goal attempts. Andriuolo and Givens combined for nine of the team's 11 field goals total.
  • UNLV enjoyed advantages of 24-9 on points off turnovers, 17-7 on second-chance points and 36-16 with points in the paint.
  • UNLV was led by Rodjanae Wade's 21 points and nine rebounds.
PLAY BY PLAY
 
A 9-0 UNLV run made it 15-8 after five minutes. Five straight Pepperdine free throws cut it to 15-13, but UNLV ended the first quarter on a 10-0 run to make it 25-13. Although the Waves outscored the Lady Rebels 10-9 in the second quarter, UNLV maintained a double-digit lead throughout the rest of the game including a 34-23 advantage at halftime. The Lady Rebels scored the first 12 points of the second half and would go on to lead by as many as 28 points in the fourth quarter.
