MALIBU, California – The #9 Pepperdine men's volleyball team saw its first action ahead of the 2020 season and posted a four-set exhibition victory over Canadian school Guelph on Monday evening in Firestone Fieldhouse.
The Waves defeated the Gryphons 20-25, 25-14, 25-21, 25-22, and then tacked on an extra fifth-set victory, 15-13.
BIG WAVES
- Freshman opposite Scott Solan (Las Vegas, Nev./West Career & Technical Academy) came off the bench to lead the Waves with 12 kills, while also adding five digs.
- Junior outside hitter Alex Gettinger (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette HS) had nine kills, four aces, four digs and three blocks.
- Senior Rob Mullahey (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS) and freshman Joe Karlous (Costa Mesa, Calif./Newport Harbor HS) shared time at setter. Mullahey had 21 assists and six digs and Karlous had 17 assists.
- Redshirt freshman libero Diego Perez (Irvine, Calif./Corona del Mar HS/Orange Coast CC) had a match-high 15 digs.
- Junior middle blocker Austin Wilmot (Valley Village, Calif./Crespi Carmelite HS/UC Irvine) had a match-high five blocks.
