CHENEY, Wash. –
Malia Bambrick played the hero Sunday night, draining a three-pointer as time expired to give the Pepperdine women's basketball team a 53-52 victory over Eastern Washington.
The Waves (5-2) did not have their best shooting night, as the Eagles (0-5) outshot Pepperdine 36% to 28%.
BIG WAVES
- Sophomore guard Malia Bambrick (Santa Clarita, Calif./Bishop Alemany HS) led the Waves with 11 points, and shot 3-6 from beyond the arc, including the game winner. She also had four assists.
- Senior guard Paige Fecske (Studio City, Calif./Chaminade HS) also had 11 points on the night.
- Senior guard Barbara Sitanggan (Fullerton, Calif./Troy HS) put up 10 points and brought down 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. She also added three assists.
GAME RECAP
The first quarter saw Fecske get off to a very hot start. She scored the first nine points for the Waves before
Monique Andriuolo (Melbourne, Australia/Maribyrnong Secondary College) made a layup. After ten minutes of play, the Eagles led 14-13. Early in the second quarter, the Waves went on a 10-2 run to take a 24-18 lead. Eastern Washington made a small comeback to end the quarter, and the Waves led 26-25 going into half time.
The Waves started the second half on a 7-2 run, but the Eagles came back to at one point take the lead by as many as four. Going into the final quarter, the game was tied at 39. Eastern Washington started the fourth hot, going up by as many as eight with just 2:55 left on the clock. The Waves got back to within three thanks to a three-pointer from
Deezha Battle (Albuquerque, N.M./Cochise College) with 1:25 left on the clock. After a layup from Andriuolo, the Waves fouled, and the Eagles made one of two free throws. With just four seconds on the clock, Bambrick inbounded the ball to Sitanggan, who passed it right back to Bambrick, who sent a shot up and in as the clock hit zero.

- The Waves out-rebounded the Eagles only slightly, bringing down 49 boards compared to 48.
- Eastern Washington shot marginally better from three, 26% to 23% by the Waves.
- The lead changed 15 times during the course of the game.
