MALIBU, Calif. – The Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center on Pepperdine's campus is set to host an all-star cast of competitors for the International Tennis Federation 25K tournament. Play is slated to begin on Monday, November 4th and run until Saturday, November 9th.
Â
ROLL CALL
Several current Waves and alums will be competing in the ITF 25K as unattached and not representing Pepperdine.
Â
From the men's tennis team, Adrian Oetzbach and Corrado Summaria drew main draw wildcards, as Enrique Luque Rico and Tim Zeitvogel obtained qualifying wildcard status.
Â
Zeitvogel is coming off of a hot run in the ITA Southwest Regional, where he pushed past UCLA's Zahraj (7-6(1), 7-5) and Arizona's Hassey (7-6(1), 6-4, 6-2) into the tournament quarterfinals.
Â
Pepperdine alums former All-Americans Sebastian Fanselow (2013) and Alex Sarkissian (2014) will also be returning to Malibu for the pro event.
Â
From the women's side will be Ashley Lahey, Anastasia Iamachkine, Jessica Failla, Lisa Zaar and Daria Kuczer.
Â
Former Wave and two-time All-American Lorraine Guillermo (2015) will also return to compete in Malibu.
Â
Most recently, Iamachkine finished the ITA Southwest Regionals in the singles semifinals where doubles tandem Kuczer and Zaar completed their run in the doubles semis.
Â
RETURN OF THE LAHEY
#14 Lahey will be returning to action after going undefeated in her last two months of play. Over the month of October, Lahey took down 11 opponents, nine of which were ranked and seven were ranked in the top 50.
Â
Lahey was also named the UTR/ITA National Player of the Month for September, as she completed a sweep of the Oracle/ITA Masters.
Â
QUOTABLE
"We're just extremely excited to have professional tennis come back to Malibu," head men's coach Adam Schaechterle said. "One of the goals that Per (Nilsson) and I have had while running our programs is seeking to connect Pepperdine tennis to professional tennis in any way possible."
Â
"We want our players graduating and having success professionally and former players who are on tour coming back and being integrated with the program and I think all of that helps with recruiting and our brand."
Â
"We are so thankful and excited that Oracle saw Malibu and Pepperdine as an opportunity to showcase their brand."
