Waves Finish Winter Invite

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's swim and dive team completed the Pepperdine Winter Invite today at East Los Angeles College. Emily Morton had an excellent swim, breaking her own school record in the 200 backstroke. The women ended the meet in 7th place out of the Division I teams.

The first event of the day was the 1650 free, which freshman Mackenzie Hamlett had the best showing for the Waves taking 14th in a time of 17:37.83. Pepperdine had two excellent finishes in the next event, the 200 backstroke. Emily Morton broke her own school record in the event, swimming a 2:03.27, nearly a second faster than her previous record at 2:04.19 which she set two weeks ago at UC Davis. Morton took ninth in the event and was followed by Caroline Eckel who placed 15th in a time of 2:07.24.

In the100 freestyle, Amy Griffin swam a season-best time of 52.45 in prelims and took 23rd overall with her 52.83 time in finals. The best overall event for the Waves came in the 200 breaststroke where they had three finalists. Olivia Kayye was the top finisher for Pepperdine, touching in 19th in a time of 2:26.41, followed by one ten, one hundredth of a second by Anna Riekhof who placed 20th in a time of 2:26.51. Kendall Brown rounded out the finalists in the 200 breaststroke taking 23rd with a time of 2:30.58.

The final race of the day was the 400 freestyle relay, where the squad of Julianna Birlin, Griffin, Nohea Lileikis, and Sammie Slater came together for a 12th place finish, racing a time of 3:32.54.
