Swim/Dive Open 2020 Hosting Colorado State, New Mexico

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's swim and dive team is back at home this Wednesday to start 2020 as the Waves host Colorado State and New Mexico.
MEET DETAILS:Â The meet will begin at 1p.m. on Wednesday (January 8) and will be held at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool in Malibu, California. The meet will be livestreamed at pepperdinewaves.com.

LAST SHOWING:Â The Waves ended their last meet of 2019 very well at the Pepperdine Winter Invite. Paulina Holmberg started the meet with a win on the 1-meter board, followed by Olivia Stotz who placed fourth. The two also got first (Stotz) and third (Holmberg) in in 3-meter event.

Freshman Mackenzie Hamlett had the best showing in the 500 freestyle and 1650 for the Waves, posting times of 5:03.93 and 17:37.83, respectively. Emily Morton broke her own school record in the 200 backstroke event, swimming a 2:03.27, nearly a second faster than her previous record at 2:04.19, taking ninth in the event. She was followed by Caroline Eckel who placed 15th in a time of 2:07.24.

Morton was also the top performer for the Waves in the IM taking 9th with a time of 4:29.25 and Khloe McCarthy finished in 16th.

In the 100 freestyle, Amy Griffin swam a season-best time of 52.45 in prelims and took 23rd overall with her 52.83 time in finals. The Waves had a solid overall performance in the 200 breaststroke where they had three finalists. Olivia Kayye was the top finisher for Pepperdine, touching in 19th in a time of 2:26.41, followed by one tenth of a second by Anna Riekhof who placed 20th in a time of 2:26.51. Kendall Brown rounded out the finalists in the 200 breaststroke taking 23rd with a time of 2:30.58.

QUOTABLE: Interim Head Coach Jana Vincent says: "We're excited to have Colorado State and New Mexico here training at Pepperdine this week. We're looking forward to getting some fast racing in against them during winter training."
NEXT UP:Â The Waves will be traveling to Loyola Marymount to compete in the WCC Cup on January 17th and 18th.
